Hi, my name is Alex, a Junior Computer Science attending university in Atlanta and I just completed my first year in programming.

*Wipes sweat from forehead “Whew” 🙌🏽

And boy has it been a ride.

Over the past year I have gone from a fearful spectator who attended the monthly RailsGirls meetup to a fearless programmer in training.

So how did I get here? 🤔

I can sum it up in one sentence: Pushing myself to get more from myself.

… That’s really it. I was at a point in my life where I was unsatisfied with my previous major (film), had a love for tech, but a fear of being outside of my comfort zone. So I took this fear, did some research, and said to myself “if you are going to do something make it count and don’t be lame.” After that moment I went to my academic advisor and the rest is history.

What am I up to now? 🤔

Nothing much except finishing the best semester that I have ever had! Really, this semester was challenging, but fun because I pushed myself to go above and beyond. I was able to learn about programming from the ground up, how systems work, and Data Structures. Taking all this in has made me a happier, better, and more efficient programmer and a more fearless person to the point where I actually taught the final lecture in my Data Structures class.

Yeah, https://twitter.com/a_t_mitch/status/931274650449055744 . That happened.

Heck, I even started this blog and reinstated my Twitter which were two huge personal goals.

What are my goals for the near future? 😎

Simple. World Domination. You trying to join my team?

jk.

My plans are to work on my skills and become a better programmer, understand topics in the programming world better, and to get out and meet more people in this crazy and fun world in tech.

So this is the end of my introduction. If you took some time to read this I thank you.

I look forward to meeting people, blogging, and tweeting more.

tl;dr: I’m Alex and not to long ago before I turned 20 and became a big adult I changed my life and became a programmer and It’s honestly the best decision that I have ever made. Also, you’ll be hearing more from me.
